Ponte de Lima is a picture-postcard country village sitting on the banks of the River Lima 30kms inland from Viana do Castelo. The village is known for being the oldest in northern Portugal and you can still see evidence of the times when the Romans ruled the land. The medieval bridge with its 14 granite arches was built by the Romans and dates back to 1AD.
Ponte de Lima is also one of the pretty villages on the world famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage hiking route - some 480 miles of trails that lead to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
