Holidays in Marsala - the resort sits on the Capo Boeo on the west coast of Sicily in the Trapani province opposite the Egadi Islands. The town is famous for its sweet white fortified wine which is also called Marsala and has been produced in the area since the 18th century.

The town is steeped in history from the days of the Carthaginians, through to when it became under Arab control to more recent times as the landing place of Garibaldi in 1860 that set the course for Italy's unification

The centre piece of this historic town is Piazza della Repubblica in front of the 17th century Cathedral of San Tomas. Here, you will find many cafes and wine bars, called enoteche, which are the perfect setting for sampling the local Marsala.

Marsala has a warm, sub-tropical climate with mild winters and hot summers. Temperatures rarely drop below 22°C until the end of October and can peak at 35°C and more in August. Spring is generally the best time to visit - it comes early in Sicily with the almond trees blossoming in February and the spring flowers in full bloom in March.

Lido Boeo Marsala

This is the local beach at Marsala and is fully equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and beach bar and restaurant. During the summer evenings, there are BBQs, music and dancing at the beach bar making it one of Marsala's hotspots.

San Vito del Capo

This is a popular beach for families with lifeguards, watersports and dining facilities. San Vito del Capo is located about 90 minutes drive up the coast north of Trapani and is a full day out.

Levanzo Island

The tiny island of Levanzo is part of the Aegadian islands accessed by hydrofoil from Trapani (25 minutes). Apart from the glorious sandy beaches, the caves are one of the main tourist attractions. Grotta Genovese is the most impressive with cave artwork dating back 10,000 years.
