Las Palmas is a bustling city is full of Spanish ambience, and boasts an important historical and cultural heritage, much of which can be found in the district of Vegueta. This is the oldest quater and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990. There is also an annual carnival with music and dancing and almost every weekend you can watch vela latina regattas (Canarian lateen sailing) which is a native sport.
