Ile d'Oleron is a peaceful island off the west coast of France known as 'The island of light'. Ile d'Oleron is 32km long and 8km and is the second largest french island after Corsica, it is connected to the mainland by a bridge. With stunning pine forests and lush nature there is much to see and explore with many historical sites and monuments like the Citadelle du Chateau d'Oleron fortress built in 1630.
If you are looking for a place to relax, the beaches which surround Ile d'Oleron are simply stunning, and easily compete with those in the South of France. They have fine white sand that run down to an emerald sea, and many have Blue Flag status. Plage des Saumonards and Plage de Remigeasse are perfect spots for swimming and sunbathing.
