Carnac villa holidays, Brittany Holiday rentals - villas & holiday homes to rent in Carnac
Carnac is found on the Morbihan coast of south-east Brittany. It is best known throughout the world as having the most important megalithic sites in Europe. They are situated over three fields – Ménec, Kermario and Kerlescan and consist of unique rows of 3,000 aligned megaliths, which date back to 4000BC. It is not known why they were put up; though it is thought they had a religious or cultural significance.
The town is split into two areas, Carnac-Ville where you’ll find the Museum of Prehistory which has one of Europe’s finest collections of prehistoric objects, and Carnac-Plage, which has five sheltered sandy beaches stretching over 2km. Grande Plage is popular with families as it is supervised in the summer and has two children’s clubs. Saint-Colomban is the place to go for kite surfers and La-Trinité-sur-Mer is a mecca for sailing. If you don't fancy lying on the beach there is also a state-of-the-art thalassotherapy and spa to relax in. Also found along the coast are around 80 oyster farms. Oyster farming has been active in Carnac since the 1880s and you can buy directly from the farms.
